Our top quality bareroot apple trees are well branched, with beautiful root structure, ranging from 6-8 ft tall. Trees are northern grown and well suited for our Michigan climate. Apple trees require cross pollination. Plant several different types of apple or crabapple nearby (15-20 feet apart) for best fruit production. It is important to select varieties that bloom at the same approximate time for effective cross pollination. Trees are highly favored by deer. Fencing is highly recommended to protect trees from deer. Tree guards are also highly recommended to prevent damage from rabbits, mice, woodchucks etc. The apples listed in this section will cross pollinate with each other well as they bloom earlier in the season. This group will also likely cross pollinate well with the selections in our 2nd grouping as well. Avoid using apple trees from our 3rd list as cross pollination will not likely be possible. We offer 2 varieties of Blueberry that perform well for our region. We recommend planting a mix of 2 or more different types for cross pollination & improved fruit set. Plants grow best in well drained, acidic soils. Both are offered as bareroot plants up to 18 inch, well branched. We recommend using hollytone fertilizer when planting (we offer this product & can reserve at checkout). Elliott blueberries are a late-season variety will give you ½” berries that are firm, easy-to-pick and perfect for fresh eating or cooking. Beautiful light pink flowers each spring. Hackberry is a large, fast growing shade tree. It establishes easily and grows well in a wide range of soils. This native tree is tolerant of heat, drought, salt spray, wind, ice, poor soils as well as sites with short-term flooding.
The bark of hackberry provides year-round interest in landscapes. The fruit is a popular food for birds and small mammalian wildlife. Much of the fruit remains on the tree throughout winter until it is eaten by birds or other wildlife.
