Hazelnuts have higher nutritional value than acorns.  The nuts produced by this smaller tree are preferred by squirrels, deer, turkey, woodpeckers, pheasants, grouse, quail and more. The male catkins are a food staple of ruffed grouse throughout the winter. Nuts mature in September/October. Grows 15-18 ft tall, 10-12 ft wide, typically in a multi stemmed form. Plant several for best results with cross pollination. Medium to fast growth rate.  Typically produces nuts within only a few years.
